WARDCRAFT:
I down loaded some video from youtube then converted them to
avi and tried to watch them on my tv set.
'but they would not play on the Phillips dvp640'.

The FLV files from youtube would not convert into an
AVI file that was readable on the dvp640.
THE AVI files did work on my computer just fine.

WORK AROUND:

FLV to MPEG1 / then MPEG1 to AVI.
by converting the youtube FLV file to MPEG1 first
I was able to get the files to play on my divx/dvd player.

FFMPEG NOTES:
# first convert the FLV video to mpeg1 ntsc.
# make the first pass 1

$ ffmpeg -i youtubevideo9mb.flv -target ntsc-vcd -pass 1 new-video-pass1-30mb.mpg

# then run the second pass 2

$ ffmpeg -i youtubevideo9mb.flv -target ntsc-vcd -pass 2 new-video-pass2-30mb.mpg

Most divx/dvd players can read a mpeg1 file.
NOTE: you can now rip the ntsc-vcd into a divx/avi file
and the divx/avi file will now
work on the 'Pillips dvp640 divx/dvd player'.

WARDCRAFT:
I don't now why the FLV video files nead to be converted to
a ntsc-vcd mpeg first before I rip them for my TV.
AFTER I rip the file I then transcode them into div3/msmpeg4/AVI
to save them onto CD.I like having a small div3/AVI video that
will play on just about any computer.

I have not uploaded any more videos to youtube in a while.
Youtube feels a little slow. It's to bad that youtube does not let you download AVI files.Some of the FLV file I find on youtube are real
real real low quality.
I nead to find a better file dump thats fast
and lets people 'upload and download' Higher quality vids.

Magnavox MWD7006 (dvd player) tech review

" It's OK" I bought the Magnavox mwd7006 divx dvd player over a month a go as a gift (back in December of 2006). COST: $37.73 at walmart. - NOTES: I bought the Magnavox DVD player / divx player and gave it a test. - PROS : 1. Yes it will play DIVX video and XVID videos plus my fav "DIV3 msmpeg4 .avi". I like anime videos in DIV3 small files low bit rate butI like my TV and movies in DIVX or XVID. 2. The on screen menu - disk browser will display long file names of AVI files. 3. The remote is basic and better than my crappy Phillips dvp640. 4. THE video scaled OK on this unit but 320x240 videos start of small and you need to use the zoom button on your remote to get full screen. once full screen the video looked ok. -------------------------------------- CONS : I could not gate this unit to play my VCD's 1. MY VCD's did not have a menu so the play chokes on the disk and never played any video. The same VCD's from my collection worke greate on three other dvd players in the house. 2. This player just did not like any of my vcd's but that's not all. The player did not play msmpeg4v2 video either. MY crapy Phillips dvp640 played msmpeg4v2 video but the Magnavox MWD7006 did not. 3. The player physically fills very light and cheap. THE box displays the unit weight @ 2.9 lbs. (1.3kg) the unit is all plastic ------------------------------------- torrent info : HOW ABOUT video downloaded from torrents? Yes I gave a few torrents files a try from goups like (VTV) (xvid-notv) (eztv) (XOR). - THE player takes a few seconds longer than I like for it to load up the video but once they start to play the video looks good. - FINAL NOTES : if this player craps out and dies like my BRO'S Phillips dvp640 I will gave up a WARNING cry not to buy it.

Monday - Free advice - say no to Phillips dvp642

"Some advice, just a couple of random ideas and advise." Mondays blog - Don't buy the Phillips dvp640 DVD player it will play divx , xvid , div3 and other avi files but it will break on you in 6 month or 12 month. " do a google search on Phillips dvp 640 you will see what's what." Someone I know had one and it broke after 11 month. - I also have the ( Phillips dvp640 ) model. I'm going on over 6 month of light or almost no use of my DVD player and it still works for now. But I did stop using my DVD player for divx and other AVI files. I bought a Nvidia graphics card for my Linux box and I watch most of my video files on my pc now. So if my dvd player is going to bust I can still play avi videos on my pc - Phillips should recall their defective product or send out rebates for a new better made DVD/DIVX player. - So if you plan on buying a divx/dvd player for your TV be warned Phillips is not known for their reliability. - Free Advice - "Shop for a different brand."
